Director of Education

Songping Han sits on the Han Institute board and is Managing Director of HANS International, Inc.. He has been a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences at St. Louis University School of Medicine and is a Postdoctoral Fellow from Washington University School of Medicine.

Songping Han is a medical graduate from Peking University School of Medicine and Ph.D. from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his postdoctoral training in Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Washington University School of Medicine. He was a faculty in the department of Pharmacological and Physiological Sciences, St. Louis University School of Medicine studying the blood pressure control mechanisms.

Songping joined Bristol-Myers Squibb company in 1998 and is responsible for the identification and pharmacological characterization of antidiabetic drugs Onglyza, Kombiglyze and Dapagliflozen during his 13 years of drug discovery research. Dr. Han has studied and taught medical acupuncture for many years and returned to China in 2012 as an Adjunct professor at Peking University School of Medicine to study translational medicine. He also established a startup company in 2012 focusing on R&D of acupuncture-related techniques such as Transcutaneous Electro-Acupoint Stimulation (TEAS) as well as manufacturing and marketing Han’s Acupoint Nerve Stimulator (HANS).

Dr. Han and his colleagues have demonstrated in several multicentered clinical trials that TEAS using HANS has striking therapeutic effects in a number of disease areas such as pain, Autism and infertility. The Chinese ministry of public health has awarded two major clinical research grants (3.2 million USD and 0.15 million USD) to Peking University team in 2013 to support two multicentered efficacy and mechanism of action studies for HANS. Dr. Han has published 42 peer reviewed papers in scientific journals. He is the author of 5 patents and contributed to 7 books. He was recruited by Beijing municipal government as High-caliber Talent From Overseas, the highest award honored by Beijing municipal government.
